Barbecued Potatoes

The other day I dug out an old cookbook I forgot we had, it's a heart smart/healthy cookbook that my mom was given when she was diagnosed with high cholestrol 21 odd years ago. I was flipping through it the other night looking to see what recipes were in there. I found a few that sounded good and I marked to try later. Well last night I tried one of the recipes and it was great. Next time I make them I will add a little paprika to the mixture. I doubled the recipe since we had 5 large potatoes, but I used 4 of them. I also didn't time the baking, because I was trying to get them to crisp up a bit. They didn't but were still oh so good! I will add that clean up would be easier if I had lined the pan with aluminum foil. It wasn't too bad, a little soak and srub with a brush removed the more baked on blobs. But all in all, the aluminum foil would have saved the elbow grease last night.

Barbecued Potatoes

1 pound unpeeled potatoes, washed (about 2 large)
1 tblsp + 1 tsp margarine, melted
1 tblsp honey
2 tsp chili powder
¼ tsp garlic powder
1/8 ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 425 F. Cut potatoes crosswise into thin slices. Spray baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place potatoes on pan.

In small bowl, combines remaining ingredients until well blended, spread evenly over potatoes. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are for tender. Makes 4 servings.

John Wilden Hughes, Jr., born on February 18th, 1950 in Michigan, began as an advertising copywriter in Chicago.

In the last decade, he stepped back from the legacy he created to enjoy time with his family, maintain a functioning farm in northern Illinois and support independent arts. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, two sons, John and James, and four grandchildren.

Shopping for clothes can be hazerdous to your health

My friend and I went to a local farmers market today, we stopped by each tent and table, seeing what all the vendors had to offer. I was pleased to find the first table we stopped at was a fellow etsy seller. I had on a pair of earrings I made, and as we talked, she said she liked them. In talking I told her I made them and that I too have a shop on etsy. So chatted for a bit, and she told us about this new resale shop down the street that she has pieces in. She said it was a nice shop, and gave my friend and I a coupon for 20% off on farmers market days. My friend and I made our way around all the vendors once and as we were doing a second time around so that I could get some gelato, we decided to stop in the resale shop and see what they had. We both like wandering around resale shops, you just never know what you're going to find.

So we go in and it's this really nice boutique looking shop, you'd never know it was a resale shop unless you read the sign or someone told you. It was the nicest resale shop we'd been in and so cute! We wandered around, looking at the clothes on all the racks and I saw this cute top that my friend and I both liked. So I decided to try it on, and after walking around for a bit longer, asked if someone was in the changing room. For some reason, I thought I heard someone in there, but after asking the girl that worked there, she said it was empty.

The room itself was nothing more than a curtain hung from the ceiling in the one corner, which looked nice from the outside, but the inside was really cute. It looked much nicer than the fitting rooms at even Lord and Taylor (I spent plenty of time in them when I worked there years ago). They had a really nice, cushy arm chair in the corner, a full length mirror leaned against the wall, and a cute little side table with a lamp on it to the other sie of the mirror. On the wall above the chair were a couple hooks for your clothes and hangers. I loved it, it was too cute. The girl said they were going to hang a chandelier in there because they didn't realize how dark it was with just the lamp. I kept saying how cute it was now, and how much cuter it will look with the chandelier.

Once I managed to get past how cute the fitting room was, I went about the task of taking my t-shirt off so that I could try on that top I found. I took my sunglasses off and as I was pulling the t-shirt over my head, I was suddenly aware of the long, dangling, chandelier earrings I had on. I had actually forgotten about these things, how that could happen is beyond me. After all, they wacked me around the neck anytime I turned my head. I nearly yanked them out of the holes whenver I pulled my hair back. I mean, come on! And yet I had actually forgotten about them. So I stood there thinking, should I take them off or just try to wrestle the top off without taking my earlobs with it. I decided to chance it.

So I'm standing there, as gently and carefully as I could, pulled my arms out of the sleeves and then stretched the neck out enough to not take the earrings with. Of course as I'm doing that, I suddenly remember I have a headband in my hair. can you tell it's been awhile since I went shopping for clothes? Everyone woman knows, you wear as few things as possible when going shopping so that you don't have to spend an hour in there just taking the jewelry and hair accessories off. Now the t-shirt I had on was one of those close fitting, stretchy ts, so trying to get it over my head without taking my jewelry and headband with it, was kind of like wrestling with a squid. But finally, sucess! It was off! YAY! On to the other top.

I untied the tabs in back and stuck my arm in, as I moved to pull it over my head. I noticed it was a bit tight going over. Well not just a bit tight, but so tight that there is no way this was a large. I checked the lable to be sure that it was indeed a large, and sure enough, it was. So next I went about the task of looking for a zipper, because there is no way this pull over top didn't have one. Sucess, I found it, under the left arm. So I unzipped and once again pulled it over my head. This time it slipped on with no problems. YAY! OK now the easy part, zip it up, because tiying it in back is where the fun really starts. I reached around with my right hand and grabbed hold of the zipper. It went up with no problems until it stopped halfway up. *sigh* I pulled the fabric taught and tried again. no joy. OK, let's try the left hand. Nope, didn't do it. OK great, now what? Deep breath, that should do it.

So I suck in my breath and hold it as I pull the zipper up. It moves about a centimeter before I hurt myself. This can't be good. I let out the breath I had been holding, stretch because if I didn't, I'd need to see if I could sue the shop for personal injury. Ah, that worked, great, now let's try that again. So once again I took a deep breath in and held it, only I pulled the zipper up as fast as I could. SUCCESS!

Now that I had that done, the rest should be easy, right? Not so much. I reached around back and think I hurt myself just giving the tabs a quick tie. I needed a moment to recover from that, man just putting that on and getting ready to walk out was not easy! OK, now I was ready and I walked out. My friend and the girl working there both agreed, it looked great on me. So as I walked back I started to untie it. You'd think that would have been the easy part, but somehow I managed to get a knot in it. Oh great, I hadn't decided if I was going to buy it yet or not, and here I was, stuck in the top with a knot in the tabs in back.

The girl offered to help with the tabs but I stuck to my guns and said I could do it. So there I was, trying not to further injure myself just trying to undo what I have no clue what I did! FINALLY, I had whatever I did, done and I went back into the corner to take it off. And that's when I remembered, the zipper. Suddenly those moments before when I struggled getting it up flashed before my eyes and I feared I would once again injure myself trying to unzip it. OK, deep breath, this should be easier this time around.

Once again I take a deep breath and hold it as I quickly reach around with my right hand to yank the zipper down. It's moving! WOO! Great, now that it's fully down I can slip out of the top and hang it back up. That wasn't so bad after all, I tell myself. No, not bad at all, just injured my arms and ribs trying to get it on and off. As I stood there changing back into my t-shirt I came to the conclusion that I can't put off working out any longer, that I am well past my due date, and that I need a swift kick in the rear. So come tomorrow morning, I will not sit in front of my laptop until well after noon. I will wake up, check email, run a couple errands, come home, make frozen yogurt base, chill that and belly dance. After all, why torture myself with a traditional workout when I can have fun dancing away the inches and pounds?

Now that the pain and suffering are all over with, I am the proud new owner of this top that I picked up, second hand, for less than $10.00.

You know it's funny. Now that my recipe has been submitting, I'm sitting here waiting by the phone. I won't hear anything for a few weeks still, at the earliest, September at the latest. I feel like I've applied to jobs and am waiting to get the call to go in for an interview. Of course there's nothing I can do now, just wait. I hope I get picked, I'd love to try for the chance at the grand prize, not to mention how badly I need the money.

I got the refund from my cell phone today and treated myself to a 6 inch and coke, plus I was startving and didn't have anything made at home. I asked for a comment card and the lady said they were out. She then got panicked and asked if something was wrong. I smiled and said nothing was wrong, there's a campaign to save Chuck, and explained it. She had never heard of it but said someone else was in there earlier asking for a comment card. :D

The guy next to me said it was a good show, he works at Blockbuster and says it's regularly reqeusted. :D

For those that haven't heard, Chuck is still in the bubble of indecision. People are organizing campaigns to show NBC that we love the show too much to see it end this Monday. Here's what you can do...

One of my buddies on another message board gave me the contact info for NBC, here you go. Josh Schwartz asked the fans to send Nerds to NBC. I didn't exactly do that. I sent a brief letter telling them that my husband is unemployed and my salary was recently reduced so I couldn't afford to purchase and mail Nerds to them so I'm sending a picture of them instead. I'm going for the memorable humor effect. LOL

These are the addresses everyone is using. Ben is the Co-Chairman and Angela is the Programming director. Or something like that. I think it's funny that several notable TV critics have even posted long, very well-written appeals to NBC in their columns. That says a lot. At the very least, use the "Contact Us" feature on nbc.com. I had already written a few times using each email address I have, then Monday's ep was so great that I had to write them again about that. Do I need therapy?

Writing to the network certainly helped a few years ago back when JAG was being torn apart by the writers and a certain producer. I think that will go down in history as the first time in history that the fans got a show cancelled. LOL (Long story short--the show was being ruined, and many fans begged CBS to cancel it in time for the season finale to be fixed and changed into a series finale that would satisfy fans who had watched loyally for 10 years.)

There is also a campaign to eat at Subway next Monday on the night of the finale and fill out a comment card saying that you are supporting one of Chuck's sponsors. The hope is that Subway will inform NBC of the spike in sales due to Chuck. Don't know how well that will work, but I'm desperate and will try anything! LOL

bra shopping and the joys of sports bras

Bra shopping is always a pain when you're searching for a new brand that fits you. Because, just like with other clothes, not all bras fit the same. I have the unfortunate luck to be a very popular size, which is a huge pain when hitting the clearance sales as Victoria's Secret. But this last time I bought bras from there, I decded to pay full price for them, in the hopes of actually getting something in my size.

So I ordered online, got the package in the mail and tried them on.

they didn't fit. The problem wasn't in the band area, but the cup area. Why? Because I am a fuller cup (shall we say) and they cut their cups so that you can't be bigger than a B cup in order to wear them. Um, that's great, so they're telling me I can only fit in the full cup bras?

Not that I have any problems with the full coverage baras, it's just that there's no reason for it, when I have bought bras from them in the past, in my size, and they fit, and weren't full coverage.

So after I returned the bras I decded to just wait for new ones, after all I still had some from before that fit but because they are satin, the straps don't stay up. So today I got my refund and decided it was time to find a new bra source. So off I went to Kohl's to see what they had to offer.

before I go any further let me explain. Years ago I was not as big as I am today, shall we say, and always had a problem with the bras we sold at Kmart (which were the same that Kohl's sells). They never fit me well. So I tried VS one day and loved them. Of course I couldn't afford to spend full price and would buy a few when they'd have their huge clearance sales. Up until this year I still shopped there. A couple years ago I went to Kohl's for a strapless bra. I didn't want to spend a small fortune on a bra I was going to wear twice. So I got a nice one from Kohl's. It was pretty much the first one I saw. I tried it on and it fit well. But when I wore it a couple times more recently, the underwire was really uncomfortable, it dug into me like nobody's business! So when I was looking at bras today, I took that into consideration.

After trying all the bras I grabbed, I found two brands that I liked. Maiden Form now has a bra that is called The Smooth Look, which really does smooth out those back rolls we all get when we're.... bigger.

With new bras in hand I went in search of a sports bra. I really need to get a new one. the two I have, have seen better days. So I looked and all the sports bras I saw were the same. Pullovers.

those were clearly designed by a man. Because no sane woman would make another woman endure trying to get something that tight over their head and then over their boobs! I used to wear those when I was smaller and back then they were like wrestling a squid! I'd hate to imaging the torture I'd endure trying to get them over my not so small boobs.

For those that are curious about sports bras and would like something comfortable like them for lounging around the house, the best ones I've found are the champion high support sports bra. They have a zippered front and so easy to get on and have great support! Now all I have to do is find a vendor that sells those locally. Or else I'll have to order them online.

Stone Academy class reunion

I was thinking about this today. would anyone want to get together this summer, maybe at Navy Pier or some place, for a reunion? After all, we're never going to see an official organized one, shoot, I still haven't had a Senn reunion!

So why not have our own? It doesn't have to be anything formal, just all of us getting together some place, hanging out and catching up.

This isn't just limited to those of us that walked across the stage in '88 to get our diplomas, those that transferred out before graduation, or those from other years that went to school with us are invited as well. I'm open to having it be something along the lines of the classes of '87 and '88.

New venture, I'm having waaay too much fun with my cafe press shop....

As I mentioned the other day, I set up shop over on cafe press as an extension ofmy etsy shop. Well, each day I'm adding more and more items to the shop. I can't wait to get a paid shop so that I can add even more! Right now I'm limited to one of each but I have a ton of pictures to work with so I won't run out of material any time soon.

I just added a flip mino to the shop, with an image that, believe it or not, is actually a picture from a previous stage set up at church. I love the looks we get with gobos, it gives me so much fun to play with for other things I do. Right now I wish I had a paid account so that I could offer up some more flip designs. Oh well, I'll live with the one and can always swap everything out after awhile.

New venture for me

I don't know why I never thought of this before, but last night I finally thought to open a cafe press account. So I did. I think I will use this for the print pieces that I was going to do on etsy, only those were things I had to put off until I had the resources to do silk screening and things like that. But now I can get them out there and not worry about it. of course, I won't be making a whole lot of money but still.

So take a look, bookmark it and pass it on to friends. Because I plan on adding more things in the coming days.

I like knowing that I have full control over my files and that I share them with whoever I want. I don't like the idea of my personal files being on a public server some place.

Plus, what about programs? How are we supposed to run them if they're not on a pc hard drive? I installed turbo tax onto my exteranl HD last year and couldn't get it to run off that. I'd rather use that more as a backup/file storage than to run my programs anyway.

I don't see anything good coming of this. Yes I use flickr and a few other oline storage sites, but they aren't for stroage, they're for SHARING pictures/files with friends and family.

It's funny, the Prisoner is a show I would have loved when I was in my teens or younger, yet I didn't see it until my mid 20s. I saw it at a friend's place, the entire series. He would do tv viewings, they'd pick a show and we'd watch it from start to finish. It was a fun time. I remember right before they announced we were watching the Prisoner, I happened to catch a show on Fox about I forgot what exactly, but they talking about the Prisoner and said who #1 was. So going in, I knew who it was. That still didn't ruin my enjoyment of the show. It was a great show. But then again, I'm a fan of BBC shows.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Patrick McGoohan, an Emmy-winning actor who created and starred in the cult classic television show "The Prisoner," has died. He was 80.

McGoohan died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said Wednesday.

McGoohan won two Emmys for his work on the Peter Falk detective drama "Columbo," and more recently appeared as King Edward Longshanks in the 1995 Mel Gibson film "Braveheart."

But he was best known as the title character Number Six in "The Prisoner," a surreal 1960s British series in which a former spy is held captive in a small village and constantly tries to escape.
